Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) is not a new idea, but the evolving incentive system in healthcare will rapidly shift focus to this methodology. These studies compare a treatment (new drug, new technique, new device) of interest to a current treatment and offer evidence to change or stay-the-course with an existing protocol.

Some CER's focus on different treatment approaches (surgery versus drug therapy). Comparative effectiveness research might also ask which types of patients may benefit most from a particular therapy.

As a public charity focused on research and innovation, we facilitate CER efforts with clinicians, device and drug manufactures and health systems to drive value in their respective fields.

The path to value-based protocols is clear, but few CER studies actual exist in today's current literature. Our goal is to fuel CER via our outcome collection efforts
